The solution to the obesity problem in the UK needs to start at childhood education.

That is the opinion of Zeal Health nutritionist Helena Oades who believes it is important to develop healthy eating habits as a child to ensure they remain into adulthood. "It is very possible to change an adult's attitude to food, but with any adult it is essential that we look not just at nutritional education but that we also focus on behavioural change techniques as well," she said.

If parents are properly educated and are able to pass that information on to their offspring in a fun and inspirational manner then positive nutrition will become automatic as the child grows older, the expert explained.

Ms Oades's comments came after the government set out its measures to lower the obesity rates in the UK.
